2023.5.4. Monthly Public Tour at UW Arboretum

5/4 Thursday. 11:30-13:00. UW arboretum hosts a free Public Walking Tour every first Thursday except December. I joined once before, and liked it. Getting there is inconvenient. Only about 5 miles, but requires 2 buses. My first bus was late, and the 2nd bus was early, so I missed the connection. Ended up walking 1.5 miles to the arboretum, and luckily ran into a group (one of the two today).

Azaleas are starting nicely. Magnolias are mostly on their way out.

Highlights (ordered by the time we saw these):

• Dove Tree (Davidia Involucrata), with 2 uneven petal-like bracts. Funny, later I found that there's one by Amazon Sphere.
• This odd peony, giant (~10cm cross) whose leaf is un-peony.
• Darmera and Orstrich Fern (Matteuccia) in this pond.
• Bicolor and yellow epimedium.

On my way back to the return bus, saw some very brightly colored cherry blossom.
