2006.3.23. Seattle Symphony conducted by Gerard Schwarz.
Beethoven: Leonore Overture No. 3
R. Strauss: Horn Concerto No. 1
R. Strauss: Oboe Concerto
Hindemith: Mathis der Mahler: Symphony
I like the most what they added at the beginning of the concert in memory of a recently deceased member: Elgar's Nimrod (Op. 36).

  • THE BRIDGE (Dmitri Shostakovitch/Val Caniparoli) -- portrayal of the tragic Bosnian War lovers known as the 'Romeo and Juliet of Sarajevo'.
  • TIME AND OTHER MATTER — World Premiere! (David Lang/Dominique Dumais) Interesting. Nice color.
  • LA VALSE (Maurice Ravel/George Balanchine) -- portrait of societal decadence unveils a ballroom gone mad where a white-gowned heroine is irresistibly drawn to the uninvited figure of Death.

2006.3.11. St. James Cathedral. Their choir was giving a performance before their tour of Italy. They are invited to sing at the Vatican this month.
2006.3.10. Seattle Opera "Cosi Fan Tutte". A Jonathan Miller production.
Simple stage design, modern costumes. Libretto is funny. The pre-performance lecture is informative.
