9/11. Saturday. 7 of us met at P&R, 2 of them were 20 minutes late. We drove in 3 cars towards Trappers Peak. 2 sedans 1 SUV. Despite of the cloudy and drizzly weather, quite a lot of cars at the TH, about 4 miles were a bit bumpy.
The first mile or so feels like walking on an abandonned road. Then the incline picks up. Hiked in clouds to the next trail junction. 2 of us decided to go to the lake, the rest 5 continued up. From there on, huckleberry was plentiful. So everytime we had to wait, I ate berries. The leaves were not red yet. At least it was not raining. I also picked a few mushrooms. Couldn't pick more, because I didn't bring an extra bag for them. Near the top ridge, you can see all three lakes. The top is a sprawling space, unlikely from the narrow trail to get there. Plenty room for many. We spent quite a lot of time, waiting for the clouds to lift. Once awhile snapping photos at the direction where the clouds had just moved away. This use to be one of my favorite day hikes, too bad, couldn't see the full view.
Met one guy from New Jersey at the summit, who just flew here to hike. He said every year, he goes somewhere to hike mid Sept.
