2025.5.4. Laughs in Spanish - a play at Seattle Rep

5/4, Sunday, 7:30pm. Alexis Scheer's Laughs in Spanish is a high energy and funny play.

An art gallery in Miami Beach had its paintings stolen the night before Art Basel. The devastated owner unwillingly put up the painting of its intern (finishing her MFA) on the wall. Her flamboyant movie-star mother was in town for an old lawsuit with a new assistant, who happens to be her boarding school crush. The intern's boyfriend is the cop who's in charge of investigating the theft.

Funny dialogues. Colorful costumes. Simple but efficient and colorful stage set. Good acting with some dance throw in. Easy plot to follow. Single act. The title comes from one sentence in the dialogue. Doesn't reflect the play.

Seems the reviewer doesn't like it. I took the image from this review.
